Explore our vibrant and diverse community through Wimauma's food traditions, landmarks, and stories!

Explore Hillsborough County's best kept secret for an unforgettable food and culture experience through the Wimauma Sabor & Soul Food Tours. Enterprising Latinas, Inc., a nonprofit creating pathways of opportunity for women in Tampa Bay, is honored to introduce you to the flavors, sights, food businesses, and entrepreneurs that make Wimauma a unique community in the Southshore. Join the tours during two Fridays and two Saturdays in August 2022: August 19th-20th and 26th-27th from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Tickets are $30 per person, which include a 90-minute curated tour experience, the ride on the Jolley Trolley, a bilingual tour guide, a tasting menu from 7 different food vendors, a small market with local food entrepreneurs, and an introduction to our Wimauma Opportunity Center.

The Wimauma Sabor & Soul Food Tours will feature fun and delicious stops in the Wimauma Village area and along State Road 674 in Wimauma. With our Wimauma Opportunity Center as the home base for the tour (5128 State Road 674), attendees will park their cars and take a tour bus to enjoy diverse bites from 7 Hispanic and African American food vendors, as well as interesting stories about the food, the entrepreneurs, and 7 community cultural and historial sites and landmarks. Upon returning to the Wimauma Opportunity Center, tour attendees will enjoy dessert and have a chance to meet other local food entrepreneurs.

Wimauma is a place of opportunity, with a captivating history and culture due to its ethnic, age, and economic diversity. At least 60% of residents are Hispanic, 13% are African American, and 39% are under 18 years old (we love our kids!). There is a high number of entrepreneurial and cultural activity in Wimauma based on food, and Enterprising Latinas has contributed to that movement since 2017 by providing training, technical assistance, and a free internet service called Wimauma Connects available to customers of many food establishments.

The tours will highlight Wimauma's connection to the land and its crops, not only due to our farming heritage, but also due to the rich cooking traditions of its residents that evoke journeys of migration, influences from other countries and regions, and the ever-evolving nature of a community that has grown out of a railroad stop and a post office since 1909. Just along State Road 674, we count multiple taquerias, fresh fruit stands, bakeries, food trucks, and roadside vegetable counters that always have attracted locals and truckers. Each food entrepreneur has a history of tenacity, creativity, and entrepreneurship we are eager to share with you. (Please note that given the tasting menu selected by our participating food businesses, we regret we cannot offer alternative options for those who prefer vegetarian, lactose-free or gluten-free diets.)

We look forward to seeing you on the tour!
